As the founder of our organization, Irma Velasquez's personal journey is both remarkable and inspiring. In the early 1990s, when her son was diagnosed with autism at age three, she faced a lack of information and resources. Her search for therapy and education for her son led to a deeper realization. She discovered that her initial desire to "fix" her son was a reflection of her own unmet needs. Over time, she learned to unconditionally love and accept Aaron as he was, leading to a profound transformation. In her book, "Fish Dreams," Irma, our founder, shares her journey of turning fear and frustration into love and acceptance, revealing a special bond with her son that reshaped her view of the world and herself.

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program
|
In this edition of the WINGS newsletter, we're excited to share a valuable resource for families in our community. IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) is a program that can provide crucial support for disabled children, allowing them to safely remain in their own homes. This program covers a range of services, including housecleaning, meal preparation, personal care, accompaniment to medical appointments, and more. We encourage families to explore this resource, and remember that our very own Molly Billalon, mbillalon@gmail.com, is available as a helpful point of contact for any questions or additional information about this program. We believe in supporting our community every step of the way!

In the latest issue of our WINGS newsletter, we are thrilled to showcase the invaluable services provided by Sensory Friendly Vaccine Clinics, as detailed in the attached article. These clinics, operating in Los Gatos and Fremont, provide a welcoming and accommodating environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities, making the vaccination experience more comfortable and accessible for all. We encourage you to read the article to learn more about these clinics' innovative approach and consider sharing the resource link in our 'resources' section. It's a testament to our community's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Together, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to protect themselves and others through vaccination.
